Kill La Kill – Episode 1 & First Thoughts

Kill La Kill! I don’t think I am the only one who can say that this show isn’t what they were expecting!

It definitely doesn’t fail to impress though! This show is something I’d expect by a studio birthed from ex-Gainax members. The Gurren Lagann comparisons will be inevitable, mainly because the cel styles are incredibly similar. Not only that, but the humor is similar to GL as well. I believe this show will come to stand strongly on it’s own though, and is a beautiful first project by Trigger.

The story is nice, and I can sense some potential feels moments coming on in the future, but for now, hilarity and over-exaggeration ensues at this hellishly and sadistically outrageous school. Killing students, uniforms that give you superpowers, and a giant red scissor (not scissors) that can deflect any attack are rampant in this new series, as well as a talking (and revealing) sailor outfit and turns our modestly clothed protagonist into a scantily-clad revenge-driven heroine.

Of course, it’s riddled with fanservice, as we could expect from these creators, but it’s done in a way that doesn’t take away from the story. The characters are all adorable, and I can see this being a show I can really get into. All in all, Kill La Kill is going to be another show I can’t wait for the next episode to come out. I hope you all enjoy it too!
